Small Scale LNG Fuel for a Green Future of the Mediterranean Economy

Thursday 21st June 2018 14:00-18:00

Abstract

Today, the international socio-political and economic framework is particularly favorable for the spread of small scale LNG solutions, because they are strictly functional to new global energy and environmental policy objectives. Because of current dynamics of energy demand and commodity prices, major infrastructure investments are losing momentum in favor of smaller projects and solutions, such as small scale LNG ones, that are presenting good development opportunities. In this framework, Italy has the unique opportunity to take a leading role in the development of a Euro-Mediterranean “platform” for the small scale LNG towards countries of the Northern shore and even more those of the Southern and Eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Unfortunately the lack of competitively priced LNG in the Mediterranean and the lack of a developed rules and regulation framework to allow safe but flexible LNG bunkering in Italian ports could discourage shipowners from deploying LNG vessels there. This workshop is aimed to provide an unique occasion to have a comprehensive view of latest LNG technologies, Italian’s new projects, status of the relevant national, flag and local rules, providing the point of view of many recognized LNG executives and stakeholders belonging the government, port authority, Flag Administration, shipowner and the industry.
